A regular rough and tumble fight is going on at present in the ranks of the harmonious democracy in regard to their next candidate for Canal Commissioner. The Cameron wing of the party have rolled up their sleeves and are determined to swallow Painter and his friends without choking. We hope they will have a pleasant time of it. We mean like the "Kilkenny Cats."

William Brindle, of this place, was elected president of the Hunlocks Creek and Muncy railroad at Benton, Columbia County, last Wednesday.

On Tuesday night last the office of the Lycoming County Fire Insurance company was entered by burglars, the safe blown open, and stocks, bonds and money to the amount of $34,620 stolen. As soon as the robbery was discovered suspicion rested upon three young men giving the names of Charles J. Meyers, Charles H. Bancroft and James H. Smith, who made their appearance here last week, in company with two girls who they left at a disreputable house near this borough. A warrant was sworn out for them and they were placed under arrest, and after a hearing before A. Rankin, Esq., they were committed to jail to await trial.

C. C. Beeber, formerly of this place, is a reporter on a Denver, Col., daily paper.

The roof of D. Clapp & Co.'s mill caught fire on Tuesday afternoon. The fire was extinguished before serious damage was done.

Two more young men left Monday for the west-T. Harvey Eves, for Leadville, Col, and Joseph Nisslev, for Comanche, Iowa.

Perry Banghart, an employee in D. Clapp & Co.'s, was struck and knocked down by a plank, dislocating his shoulder and breaking some bones in his foot.

Market report-Wheat $1.75, rye 60 cents; corn 50; oats 40; potatoes 25; butter 25; eggs 10; lard 7; ham 10.

Mrs. William E. Mohr gave a party on Tuesday evening in honor of Miss Fannie Paxton, of Philadelphia.

100 years ago

Frank S. Rogers and Mrs. Georgine W. Heberton, both of this place, were united in marriage on Saturday at the parsonage of the First Presbyterian church in Williamsport.

At noon on Wednesday, March 31, in the manse of Christ Presbyterian church, Lebanon, Pa., Edward E. Maggs, of Atlantic City, N.J., and Miss Jessie M. Pursell, of Muncy, were united in marriage.

Watch for money-A bogus silver dollar of 1890 with a flaw in the letter "n" of Unum" and a counterfeit $20 note of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York are in circulation.

Frank, the five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Miallo, was burned to death Easter Sunday afternoon when the Miallo home at Ralston was destroyed by a fire which, it is said, was due to the child playing with matches.

The Muncy-Muncy Creek school district has received in the past week a grant of nearly $5,000 as a bequest of the late Anson P. Taylor.

Clarence McConnell Elected to 4-Year Term as School Superintendent.

Mrs. Wilbur Baskin, of near Muncy, suffered severe lacerations about the face and head Tuesday when a car in which she was riding collided with another car.

One of Muncy's fine old landmarks is soon to be razed as Gilbert Brothers this week announced detailed plans of their expansion program which will soon bring to Muncy one of the most modern garages in the area.

Miss Eleanor Ann Reeder became the bride of Lake E. Byerly, on Saturday, April 8.

Marriage announced of June Elaine Woodling, Muncy, to Donald Arthur Canada, of Montgomery. The ceremony will be held on April 15.

Announcement made of the engagement of Pauline Marie Pribble to Kenneth Robert Brungard of Hughesville.

In a double ring ceremony Miss Ruth Arlene Houseknecht, of Clarkstown became the bride of Harold E. Akers, of Radford, Va., on April 8.

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Covert, of DuBoistown, have announced the marriage of their daughter, Marjorie Lee, to Claude Seagraves, of Lock Haven on March 7.

Easter Storm Dumps 10-inch Snow in Area

Exceptional action by firemen of Keystone Hook and Ladder company probably saved a good portion of the business block in downtown Muncy from complete destruction on March 28. When an explosion, triggered by combustion, blew out the windows and door of Sherry's Trading Center, the intense fire was already underway with black smoke pouring out.

An Easter holiday in Rome is being enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fruet, of Muncy, and his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith, former Muncians now residing in Williamsport.

David Wallis, already a 17-year veteran of Navy service, has been advanced to the rank of commander in the Naval Reserve.

PFC Ralph Kepner, Hughesville, is now serving in Viet Nam.

Engagement announced of Bettie Jane Bayley, Picture Rocks, to James Smalles, of Coshocton, Ohio.
