The mails to and from Hughesville are now carried by way of the Muncy Creek railroad instead of by stage.

Snow to the depth of one foot fell at this place on Saturday.

A stable belonging to Michael Reeder was destroyed by fire at Turbotville on Tuesday evening.

Feb. 6, 1880

We were favored with an old fashioned snow storm on Friday.

S.D. Renn, of this place, has again taken the contract to carry the mail between Muncy and Dushore.

Edward Kerr, the blacksmith, advertises that he will shoe your horse with new shoes for $1.25 and 50 cents for setting.

A social hop was given at the residence of Major Isaac Bruner, one Wednesday evening of last week and was a most enjoyable affair. Prof. Lenn's orchestra of Williamsport furnished the music for dancing.

Commander Wm. A. Flack, of Col. J.D. Musser Post, attended the Grand Army encampment, at Reading, last week.

Miss Vila Leigh, South Williamsport, and Donal J. Wertman, Muncy, were united in marriage on Thursday morning last week.

Robert Kelley Hill, of Franklin township, and Anna Katherine Sweeney, of Millville, were united in marriage on Monday morning.

C.R. Hauser, of this place, and Miss Agnes Wagner, of Danville, were married on Monday at Hagerstown.

Because of his 60-year old wife bravely gave up a pint of her blood, HJ.S. Williamsport, 62, Sunbury, will live according to doctors. Emaciated and nearly a skeleton, of anaemia, and doctors declared that a blood transfusion is all that would save his life.

There does not seem to be much change in the influenza situation here. A large number of our citizens are confined to the house.

Died: Augustus Pursell, Muncy, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, aged 80 years and 9 months; Mrs. Eva Sedam, died at the family home on South Market street his morning, aged 36 years; Mrs. Gertrude Walker, Milton, died on Tuesday; Benjamin Poust, 80, well-known throughout the county. He was a veteran of the Civil war, having served four years as a member of Company F. Pennsylvania volunteer infantry.

IN a presentation last Thursday, Ruth Oliver, of Hughesville, was awarded a table-model radio and a check for $25 after being selected winner of a regional first prize in competition of the Future Homemakers of America. Miss Hazel Dewald of Hughesville received honorable mention in the state-wide kitchen planning contest .

Died: Fred H. Murray, Muncy, died suddenly last Saturday; Laura Shaffer, 80, Montgomery native; Maurice B. Tyson, 72, formerly of Montgomery, Feb. 1; Mrs. David Kreppeneck, 67, Millville, Feb. 2; Joseph Zimmerman, 7, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Zimmerman, Hughesville died at his home Feb. 1 after a long illness.

The former Mary Ann Roach, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and M. Richard Wert, of Muncy, were married on Jan. 24.
