Hughesville Local column for November 27, 2019

November 27, 2019
By Nancy Hodge , The Luminary

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a satisfying feast and a day of pleasant conversation and fellowship with family or friends. I know that many homes will be filled with good smells and the sounds of children and adults enjoying the day together. I'm looking forward to every bit of it! As you partake of all our bounty on what seems to have become a national day of over-indulgence, please remember why we have the holiday and to whom we owe our gratitude.

The familiar translation of Martin Rinkart's hymn says it all:

Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,

Who wondrous things hath done, in whom this world rejoices;

Who, from our mothers' arms, hath blessed us on our way

With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,

With ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us;

And keep us in His grace, and guide us when perplexed,

And free us from all ills in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given,

The Son, and Him who reigns with them in highest heaven,

The one eternal God, whom earth and heav'n adore;

For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

Don't forget to include downtown Hughesville and members of the Greater Hughesville Business Association (GHBA) in your holiday shopping plans. The annual "5 to Drive" promotion and prize extravaganza begins on Friday, the 29th, and runs through next Sunday when prizes will be awarded after the Christmas parade. Be sure to visit as many of our local merchants as you can. There are some amazing finds available that you won't find anywhere else. East Lycoming Historical Society museum will feature extended hours both weekends during the GHBA promotion.
