Hughesville Locals Apr. 24, 2019

April 25, 2019
By NANCY HODGE , The Luminary

We have had a succession of April showers, but coaches and athletes in Spring sports would appreciate an extended dry period! Schedules are full for soccer, tennis, track, softball, and baseball teams, so rescheduling rained-out events is a real challenge. But, on sunny, dry days, there are many opportunities for you to enjoy watching these talented, enthusiastic young people. Whether you prefer Varsity sports or those for the beginners, watching a game is always a treat.

This weekend you can help make a difference in the life of a young man in a neighboring community. Make time to take part in the "Uniting Wrestlers Against Cancer" benefit event at the Hughesville Fire Hall. Luke Gorg, state-qualifying wrestler from HHS, organized this event and will welcome you on Sunday.

Things are changing at the PA 405/US 220 intersection at the north end of Main Street, and I'm sure we will all benefit from the improved traffic flow once the re-design and re-alignment project is complete. I have been able to avoid using that route for the past couple of weeks, but I know many folks travel through that area daily. Please be cautious as this transformation takes place.

Timmy is a junior and wrestler at Canton Area High School, and Luke's friend, and is fighting Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Luke has organized a variety of entertainment, food, raffles, and a live auction. Many prizes are of particular interest to wrestlers and fans of academic and collegiate wrestling, and there are also many that are of general appeal.

Mon. Apr. 29 "Wee Tales" program for children ages 12 months to 3 years and their caregivers at HAPL, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. Sing along with Miss Victoria and her guitar, share books, and play with selected toys, helping children develop social skills, motor skills, and language and pre-math skills. Registration is appreciated.
