Montgomery Locals Mar. 27, 2019

March 27, 2019
By JADE HEASLEY , The Luminary

Can you believe that 2019 is about one-fourth of the way over already? The older I get, time seems to fly more quickly with every passing year.

It certainly was an odd weather week with a bizarre sleet storm on Friday. It persisted long enough that every piece of ice on the ground had a few others within an inch or two. The individual pieces were about an eighth of inch around, large enough to be impressive but thankfully not big enough to do any damage. At the height of it, it looked as though a blizzard had blown into town.

We are getting to that weird point in spring where it's warm enough to wear a t-shirt one day and then you need a winter coat the next. But at least the sun has been shining so hopefully we might actually get to enjoy some warm weather this year, as opposed to last year when it rained almost non-stop all summer.

It has also been reported for the second time this month that the Northern Lights would be visible to the naked eye here in central Pennsylvania. I looked for them but couldn't see them myself. It was rather disappointing but it brought back fond childhood memories of looking for Haley's Comet out the back window of the kitchen as a child (which I also didn't see). But I suppose that's life. Sometimes you succeed and sometimes you walk away knowing you didn't get what you wanted, but you at least made the attempt.

THOT "It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade." from "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens
