Of the 18 local wrestlers who qualified for the state tournament, 15 were eliminated from medal contention either Thursday or during Friday’s morning session. Returning state medalist Nate Higley of Sullivan County won his second-round consolation bout before dropping a 7-3 decision to Reynolds’ Kaeden Berger the blood round.

Muncy went 0 for 5 in the morning consolation round and had its streak of 11 consecutive seasons with a state medalist snapped. It had been tied with Benton for the longest active streak in District 4. Benton took over the lead for the longest active streak at 12 seasons when Gable Strickland won his blood-round match at 113 pounds. Strickland ended the weekend finishing fifth.

Those eliminated in Friday’s morning rounds were Lewisburg’s Kaiden Wagner (106) and Dakotah Snyder (220), Milton’s Kyler Crawford (120), Muncy’s Bryce Vollman (126), Mario Barberio (138), Ty Nixon (160), Ethan Gush (170) and Mike Kustanbauter (182), Montoursville’s Cael Crebs (152) and North Penn-Liberty’s Cameron Andrews (182).

Warrior Run’s Noah Hunt (120), Williamson’s Matt Carpenter (126) and Hughesville’s Ben Heinrich (126) and Luke Gorg (138) were all eliminated after going 0-2 on Thursday.
