Muncy Locals Aug. 29, 2018

August 31, 2018
By BARBARA C. BARRETT , The Luminary

Wow I can't believe August has slipped by and Labor Day weekend is approaching. This went way too fast for me and many of you were busy keeping your basements dry. School is now in session and organizations are planning for the holidays. Just a reminder the next Luminary will come out on Thursday, September 6.

Muncy 4th Friday was the best event in the county. On Friday night Main Street was festively alive with locals and guests and delighted children waiting to get into the bounce house. Sponsored by Crossroads Church, it had Disney's Frozen characters on the front and there was a constant line of kids right up until closing time having fun inside. Plus it was strategically placed right in front of Orlando's at the intersection. Most of Main Street was closed and the vendors were giving out so many cool things to the kids. I had three of my grandchildren with me and they had such fun. I convinced my daughter to take them to Muncy 4th Friday instead of the downtown Little League event in Williamsport going on at the same time. In Muncy the kids got lots of giveaways - balloons, snow cones, water coolers, cookies, books, toy bags, crayons & coloring books, and more than we could hold. The kids asked me when they could come back. Hooray Muncy 4th Friday and the Muncy Professional Business Association members and volunteers for the hard work. It paid off, and the A-Team band got everyone jumping. Santander's dunking station also was a hit!

On Saturday morning there was an art walk at the Lycoming Mall, a fundraiser to introduce Arthaus Projects, a non-profit organization to promote the arts. After the art race there was an opportunity to view and purchase some local art inside the mall. I found some local crafters who took advantage of the opportunity to interact art with our local community. Crystal Millard from Muncy introduced her fundraiser for Muncy High School's Marching Band and Cheerleaders so they can go to Disney World in 2019. She is making custom window decals she has drawn that can show your name, sport and player number and graduation year. She has 30 different designs to choose from, and she will be taking orders until September 21st. You can reach Crystal at the Muncy Library.

As the holiday approaches and school is back in session, area police are taking efforts to control underage drinking by working with local college campuses. Both state and local police officers want to "preempt" alcohol related problems, especially before they start. They are going to work with campuses and their enforcement officials to reduce underage consumption according to a report released on August 20 from the District Office Commander. Additionally, efforts will be made to arrest any one person or any organization supplying alcoholic beverages to anyone under 21. The penalty for the first offense is a summary offense at $1,000 and up to one year of imprisonment.

Have a happy holiday everyone.
