Hughesville Locals June 27, 2018

June 27, 2018
By NANCY HODGE , The Luminary

After the big tease of high temperatures last Monday, things really cooled off for the first official days of summer, but it looks like we will have a "sizzling" Fourth of July! Some long-range forecasts show typical hot weather for the holiday and the days before and after, so many of the usual activities will be enjoyable. We are planning to do some camping (with our tent!) so I hope any thunderstorms are minimal.

Career Link will be sponsoring a free STEAM Camp this summer at Hughesville HS. The camp is open to students that will be in 9th-12th grade during the 18-19 school year. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Electronics, Arts, and Math. Students attending will earn $250.00 for attending camp! Additional information and a registration form is available from the CareerLink website. The program is a "first come-first served" basis and only 12 students will be accepted. The camp will take place July 30 through August 9 and sounds like a fabulous opportunity.

One of the many options for local activities for young and old alike is the programming by the Eagles Mere Conservancy. Open to the public, these nature explorations range from hikes to crafts and will be a great means for starting conversation with your family about the natural world. Schedules of activities, which take place on weekday, as well as Saturday, mornings, are available from businesses in the Eagles Mere area, and the website www.eaglesmereconservancy.org.

Of course, this valuable non-profit organization will welcome any donations you can provide to help defray expenses.

If you are looking for some great musical entertainment, Eagles Mere also offers a concert series at the DeWire Center at 891 Laporte Avenue.
