June 27, 2018

PENNSDALE A trunk show by a local quilter Wendy Etzel, who has attained international fame for her designs, was speaker for the May meeting of the Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild (SVQG) at Pennsdale.

A professional quilting teacher of 40 years, Wendy has crossed the U.S. and Canada and has flown to work with quilters as far away as Australia and New Zealand. She also taught on HGTV, sharing her techniques for constructing a primitive log cabin.

Etzel took her cue from log cabins along the Loyalsock, to Williamsport's Victorian homes, to antique furniture. All inspired her to write five books featuring traditional quilts. Outside her rural home, nature and its inhabitants inspire her quilts. Spotting an eagle in flight was the inspiration for her latest quilt.

Save the dates of October 6, 7, and 8 for a trip to enjoy the fall foliage plus Etzel's forty years of works. The event will be held at the Plunketts Creek Fire hall, 327 Dunwoody Road in Barbours. The minimal entrance fee will benefit the Volunteer Fire Company. (Directions: 16 mile north of Montoursville off Route 87 onto Dunwoody Road).

Meanwhile, the guild's upcoming gathering is a picnic, scheduled for June 21, 6 p.m. at Trinity UM Church in Pennsdale.
