Hughesville Locals

by Nancy Hodge

It took three trips to my attic to find my warm weather clothing, and now that I finally have my shorts and sandals the temperatures have moderated. I am sure I will have many opportunities to use summer attire, so I will have a little more time to pack up the long sleeves and heavier trousers.

Last week was the annual Arts Festival at East Lycoming School District and the teachers and students of the art and music departments displayed their work in a variety of media and concert performances. It is wonderful to see the wide range of inspired creativity and the excellent artistic expression. It seemed fitting that the Community Theater League announcement of this year’s Ray of Light nominees should come in conjunction with this local arts celebration. Congratulations to the HHS students and their class play and musical directors, Ms Desiree Mausteller and Mr. Brian Barckley (musical only) for the great job they all did in the two productions this school year.

HHS is one of seven school districts which produced both a play and a musical this year, so it is also eligible to be chosen to win the Ray Phillips Memorial Trophy for an outstanding theater program.

We can all be proud of this wonderful honor earned by the dedication and hard work performed by these students and their directors! What a great job!

Also congratulations to Samantha Thompson and Kade Heckel, two high school seniors, as they are two of ten students who will be receiving the Carl E. Stotz Little League Baseball Scholarship.

This weekend is Mother’s Day, so I know a lot of people will be making dinner reservations and buying flowers and goodies for the special moms in their lives. It’s a great time to celebrate all the family ties that we enjoy, and to take time to enjoy each other. Let’s hope for mild, pleasant weather!
