Indians advance to district final

Muncy 69-NP-Mansfield 50

Muncy defeated the defending champion North Penn-Mansfield, 69-50, in the District 4 Class AA semifinals this past Saturday in Montoursville. The Indians (16-7) reached its first district final since 2004 and also clinched a second straight state tournament berth after scoring 52 second-half points. Muncy earned a spot in the championship against Northeast Bradford and will play in Mansfield this Thursday night.

Trailing by two after half time the Indians were on the offense as Rymsza scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half. Rymsza scored 12 third-quarter points, eight in the fourth and made all six shots from the field. He also went 6 of 7 at the foul line in the fourth quarter and hit consecutive 3-pointers late in the fourth. Nate Paisley also added 13 of his 18 while Muncy outscored Mansfield, 52-31. Matt Coyner finished the game with 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the win.

Spartans win quarterfinals

Hughesville 55, Mt. Carmel 45

Hughesville went on the road last Thursday and defeated the Tornadoes, 55-45, in the quarterfinals for the second straight year. The Spartans are in the semi finals for a third straight year and will take on Loyalsock.

Matt Myers scored 21 points, and Taylor Mason had 17 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks while Isaiah Savage and Nick Rouhoff played tough defense. Pat Rogers had five rebounds and five assists. Myers scored four fields goals in the win and Savage had two.
