Muncy Locals Dec. 13, 2017

December 13, 2017
By BARBARA C. BARRETT , The Luminary

Congratulations to Lynne Hopkins who was one of the winners to the Passport Program sponsored by members of the Historical Organizations of Lycoming County and the Visitors Bureau. She won 4 tickets to Little League Baseball and 4 tickets to the Little League Museum. Participants had the opportunity to win prizes from April 1st through Nov. 20th by attending many of our museums and tourist destinations of Lycoming County. Angela Jackson from Muncy won 4 tickets to any performance at the Mary Welch Theater at Lycoming College for their current season. Jane Seibert of Turbotville won a $25 gift certificate to Station House in Montgomery. This program will start again this spring, so be sure to visit the participating destinations, and win some prizes.

Congratulations also to Coleman Good of Muncy High School who was recognized this month as student of the month from the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.

Students from the Muncy High School presented a veterans day program to residents at the Muncy Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. They researched the military branches and held flags for each as they sang musical tributes to honor those who served. On Friday, December 22 Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be there passing out gifts and refreshments for a party at the Skilled Nursing Center.

Recently a group of concerned animal activists met at the New Mountain Tavern in Montgomery to lobby for more animal protection laws. They are looking for increased penalties for abuse and protection from animals being locked inside hot vehicles. The Animal Care Sanctuary said Pennsyvania is lagging behind some of these laws, and puppy mills are still on the rise. It is best to call authorities of any kind of abuse and not be afraid to report animal cruelty. We must be willing to speak up to make the changes.

I was disappointed I missed the annual Merry tuba Christmas at the mall on Saturday. It was their 29th event for the area, and it is always enjoyable. I love how they decorate their instruments. Instead, I attended the Montgomery parade and watched Santa arrive on the fire truck - kudos to the Montgomery Lions for such a festive time.
