Muncy Locals July 5, 2017

July 5, 2017
By BARBARA C. BARRETT , The Luminary

Four members of the Myers family have volunteered with the Muncy Valley Area Volunteer Fire Co. for a combined 235 years. They include Dale Myers, charter member, 65 years; Kathy Myers Robbins, member of auxiliary and active fire company member, 43 years; Chet Myers, member, 64 years; and Mary Myers Eberlin, charter member of auxiliary for 63 years.

Congratulations Tayne Sampson for receiving the Service Partner Excellence Award honored by UPMC Susquehanna. Tayne is an activities aide with the Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Muncy. She was also my neighbor and helped take great care of my two daughters when they were little. She loves working with the residents and whenever I see her, she is always engaging them in some activity. She was great when she dressed up as the Easter Bunny, and at Christmas she dressed up as an elf and helped pass out presents to the residents.

Today Google Street View photographers will be in Muncy at Best Line Power Equipment on Lycoming Mall Drive where they are filming and adding the business to Street View which allows you to look around inside their business doors through your computer or smart phone. The feature is pretty impressive, not to mention the technology.

School spending is up. The average Pennsylvania school receives more than $16,500 per student, a 16 percent growth over the past four years. Per student, funding in the state of Pennsylvania is 9th highest in the country, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

Don't miss the annual Muncy quilt show next weekend. The Shires-Crawley family quilt collection will be one of the highlights. The Muncy Historical Society Facebook page says this exhibit will be the Hemlock Grove Methodist Church fundraiser quilt, c. 1900 (Davidson Twsp., Sullivan Co.)
