140 years ago

Married-At the residence of the bride's parents in Muncy, on April 26, R Bruce Montgomery with Sade R. Schuyler, eldest daughter of L.E. Schuyler, esq.

Fred Lauer, for some years employed in the machine shops of P.M. Trumbower & Company, in this place, has accepted a situation as fireman on the Reading railroad.

Jr. O.U.A.M., No.169, will hold an ice cream festival at Keystone Hall, West Water street, May 30.

L.E. Schuyler has put down a new pavement of brick and painted and otherwise improved his property corner Main and High streets.

The Muncy Florida Colony is taking shape. Capt. Lloyd, Dr. Langdon and J.M. M. Gernerd are among those who have the fever in its worst form.

132 years ago

Died-In this borough, on April 15, Mrs. Clara Hall, aged 39 years.

Navigation has opened on the canal.

Henry Gohrs has opened a carriage and wagon shop in rooms recently occupied by McDaniel & Gohrs, on Water street.

Cut flowers, etc., at Harp's greenhouse on Water street.

Friday evening last a 24-hour skating contest was begun at the Muncy Rink between Harry Carson, George Huller, William McMichael and John Ritter. the McMichael fell out at 2 a.m. having made 67 miles. Ritter quit a little later on account of a sprained ankle with a score of 51 3/4 miles. At 12 o'clock Carson was compelled to withdraw, the score at that time being 141 miles for Carson and 157 miles for Huller. The two were to resume the race at 5 o'clock but Carson was unable to do so and Huller was awarded first money, $15. Carson secured second money, $10. A large crowd witnessed the contest.

Died: Miss Katherine Winters died at the home of her sister, on South Main street, Friday night, after a long illness aged 58 years.

At noon Wednesday Mill Anna Catherine Angle, of Muncy,m and Oscar R. Zeller, of Williamsport, were united in marriage.

The Rev. William H. Snyder, of Montgomery, has resigned as pastor of the Reformed church here to accept a call to Salem Reformed church, Altoona.

Mrs. Harold Poust has been informed that her grandson Steven V. Chandler, was second place winner in his school in the Time Magazine "Current Affairs Test".

Wallace Maurer, former Muncy high school wrestling coach now director of athletics at Mansfield State college, will give the main address at the annual Muncy high school all-sports banquet on April 7.

Miss Thelma Kay Hall, of Hughesville, married on May 31 to Donald Eugene Blair, of Muncy.

Births: Born March 30, to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Van Arkle, of Delta Iowa, a son. Mrs. Van Arkle is the former Janet Keene of Picture Rocks; Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCarty, Montgomery, daughter, March 28. Mother former Sharon Mowery; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Snyder, Hughesville, son, March 31. Mother former Doris Houseknecht; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bennett, Muncy, daughter, April 4. Mother former Dorothy King; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wertman, Montgomery, daughter, April 1. Mother former Lois Winder.

Deaths: Leo Butera, 78, one-time fruit merchant in Muncy; Earl Valentine, 63, Lewistown, April 2.
