The Montgomery Area Historical Society is gearing up for a busy summer. They open the doors to the Adam Room every second Saturday of the month and welcome the public to see pieces of the history of Montgomery Borough, Clinton Township, Brady Township, and Washington Township. The Adam Room is on West Houston Avenue beneath the Montgomery Area Public Library.

The next Adam Room open day will be May 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to the usual attractions, they will be sharing information about their participation in the Passport to History Program which is part of the Historical Organizations of Lycoming County (HOLC). The Passport to History Program will run until November 30, and for each time an individual attends a HOLC participating event, they will receive an entry in a drawing with multiple prizes for events and gift certificates to different places throughout the county. A HOLC table will be set up in the Adam Room to allow visitors over 18 to fill out one entry. An additional entry will be given to individuals who attend participating events over the summer and fall. Please visit the Adam Room on May 13th to learn more about the Passport to History Program.

The Montgomery Area Historical Society will open the Stone Church on Sunday, May 21 from 2-4 p.m. The Stone Church is the last surviving building that was taken by the government along with the village of Alvira and a large section of White Deer Valley during World War II to build a munitions plant. This year marks the 75th anniversary of when the land was taken.

In addition to events at Alvira and the Adam Room, the Montgomery Area Historical Society hosts a number of talks and lectures throughout the year. All events sponsored by the Montgomery Area Historical Society are free and open to the public. Yearly membership to the Historical Society is very affordable with lifetime memberships also available. Fees from memberships help to support the society and maintain the Adam Room.

To contact the Montgomery Area Historical Society, you can visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/montgomeryareahistoricalsociety/, or call 570- 547-1671.
