Hughesville 66, Notre Dame-Green Pond 55

Hughesville dominated the second half in the Class AAA state tournament opener with a 66-56 win against Notre Dame-Green Pond. Five players scored at least nine points and totaled 21 assists earning them the right in the second round against Lancaster Mennonite. (Score was not available at press time.)

Trailing by two at halftime, the Spartans stormed the last half of the game with a 23-7 run to build a 15-point lead with just 70 seconds remaining. Landon Henry scored 16 points and dealt four assists, breaking the Hughesville record for career assists. Henry also is the program's all-time assists leader, breaking the record previously held by Bryan Hoover who set it from 2005-09.

Taylor Mason recorded another double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Matt Myers scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half. Myers hit two 3-pointers and one with just seconds to go giving the Spartans a nine-point lead. Conrad Sheatler scored 10 points while breaking the single-season record for 3-pointers in a season. Luke Ergott provided strong offense and defense finishing the game with nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

Class AA Results

Halifax 47, Muncy 42

Muncy ended its run in the PIAA Class AA state tournament last week when the Indians were held to one point in overtime of the 47-42 loss to District 3 champion Halifax. Jeff Fry led all players with 20 points while Peyton Hulyo finished the night with nine. Fry and Nathan Paisley each scored a field goal in the loss.

Muncy 60, N. Bedford 51

For the second time this postseason Muncy overcame a double-digit deficit after Northern Bedford led 26-16 at halftime and by 12 early in the third quarter to win the play-in Class AA tournament, 60-51. Jeff Fry scored a game-high 21 points, and all six Muncy players had at least six points as the Indians won the program's first state tournament game since 2003. Nate Paisley finished with nine points and had six assists including a crucial 3-pointer. Sophomore Dylan Wilt played strong in the second half after taking over for Matt Coyner, after he had been hit with four fouls, scoring six points, including four in the fourth quarter. Coyner finished the night with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Peyton Hulyo contributed six points and eight rebounds. Noah Rymsza sunk three straight free throws finishing the night with eight.
