This 1913 postcard features photos of the Montgomery Ferry and Boat Landing. If you look carefully at the fence on the right side of the bottom photo two little boys are visible. Before the river bridge was constructed, residents had two options to get across the river: pay the ferry captain or row their own boat. Montgomery's ferry captain was Samuel Wertz who lived in a house near the river. When someone wanted to cross the river, they rung one of two cast iron bells on either side of the river to summon Wertz, who was always on call.
