MUNCY - Called to the former Andritz building at 100 Sherman St. to investigate a burglary in progress about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, borough and state police found a homeless man who told the officers he was removing scrap metal to sell for cash, according to an affidavit.

Christian Edward Emerick, 20, of 86 Peter Gray Lane, admitted he broke into the vacant building Friday night because he had "no place to sleep," the affidavit stated.

A section of the ceiling had been pulled down in an area where "electrical outlet switches and lights were being removed," police said.

Damage to the building was in excess of $1,000.

Emerick, who had a screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters in his possession, admitted he and two other men had broken into the building on the afternoon of Feb. 23.

Emerick told police he stole more than 400 pens and other office supplies from the building.

Charged with burglary, felony trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of instruments of crime and criminal mischief, Emerick was arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of bail.
