Students see quilts conveying history themes

December 29, 2015
By CAROL SONES SHETLER , The Luminary

Students in Mrs. Olshefskie's sixth grade class at Ashkar Elementary School currently studying local history, learned how a woman combines history with quilt making.

From her collection, Carol Sones Shetler chose six pieces for a show and tell. Each depicted a subject including the Moreland Township's 200th anniversary in 2013, The Village Blacksmith, Grist Mills, the Monarch Moose, Winter in Woolrich, plus a tribute to Civil War soldiers in the quilter's family.

Following the presentation of the story quilts, students chose their favorite piece and posed for pictures.
