MUNCY – A familiar place for twenty two years at the Lycoming Mall will be relocating this week to center city Williamsport. The Life Center has been and will continue to be a community asset by providing health screenings, beneficial programs and easy access to health information.

The facility will be relocating to the new building just inside the main entrance at 641 Walnut Street in Williamsport across from Susquehanna Health’s Regional Medical Center.

According to Robin Dawson, RN, BSN, and Life Center’s Health Educator, the Life Center will be sharing office space with the YMCA, HeadStart and BLAST. “This also puts us in closer proximity with the physicians. I am hoping for more programs and screenings,” Dawson said. There will also be a restaurant in the building. The Safe Kids program will be centered there, Breastfeeding Moms, and a day care center, all of which will open up more opportunities for parents and young families.

The Life Center will be maintaining a marketing lease at the Lycoming Mall but will be giving up the retail space for that lease has expired. The move was confirmed last year and the Life Center was part of the planning process for the new building before it started construction.

Official closing will be Friday, November 21. The new location will be available on Monday, December 1st to allow time to move into the modern facility. No services will be offered between those dates.

Dawson said she is excited about the move and is looking forward to a new office that will have windows. “We will continue to get the information out there. The move is a healthy step toward energizing outreach to the community.” Some clientele may be lost, but others will be gained. Those who couldn’t easily travel to the mall may now be able to access the information. “There will be opportunities to serve our community even more directly than before,” she added. “The Life Center is committed to improving the health of those we serve.”

Also included in the new facility will be a consultation room and an exam room. “There is a nice exam table for more thorough exams and a baby scale. Although we are not an acute care center, our services help people with better health.”

Services will continue. “We will have everything we have now, plus additional services,” Dawson said. With an emphasis on health and wellness, the Life Center provides daily heart rate checks, oxygen level and blood pressure screenings, weight management, nutrition education, diabetes and stroke consultations, height and weight checks, referrals to special services and a variety of programs to encourage an active lifestyle. Most of the services are at no cost and on a walk-in basis.

The Safe-Sitter program for teens will continue as well as the Susquehanna Striders. “The Striders can walk anywhere,” said Dawson. “They don’t have to walk at the mall. It is an on-going walking program.”

Future programs will include skin screenings and a CPR course.

The Life Center will continue to operate with volunteers. More volunteers are desperately needed and hours are flexible according to Dawson.

On Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Brown Bag Medicine Check was the last public program held at the Lycoming Mall location.
