High School classes send gifts across the world

December 24, 2013
The Luminary

The Muncy Christian Club sponsored a school wide collection of shoe boxes this month for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse. Fifty children will have a brighter holiday because of the efforts of teachers, staff, and students who stuffed these boxes with gifts for kids across the world.

Michelle Beck, Guidance Counselor and advisor for the senior class at Hughesville High School helped the students with a fundraiser through the "Save the Children" Foundation. The students sold cookie dough baking kits through a non-profit organization, Great American Opportunity, and chose prizes for their efforts. According to Beck, the seniors wanted to choose baby chicks and a total of 45 chickens will go to families in need. Their efforts will help offset the cost of their yearbooks.
