The Legend of the Old Shoe

September 18, 2012
The Luminary

MUNCY - The Old Shoe Trophy or "shoe of the unknown football player" was born in 1961 when, during a discussion concerning an appropriate award for the winner of the annual Muncy vs. Montgomery football game, Dick Dietz and George Sauers picked a shoe out of a pile of leftovers in the Muncy gym, and the tradition was born.

The Muncy Jaycees had it bronzed and placed on a trophy to be given to the winning school in the rival football game each year.

This year, 2012, Muncy beat Montgomery 48 - 8.
