Ross Named Educator of the Year at Leadership Award Luncheon

Daphne Ross, Superintendent of Montgomery Area School District, was honored recently as Educator of the Year at the 2009 Adam Smith Leadership Award Luncheon that was held at Ted’s on the Hill in Shamokin Dam.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Andy Russell was featured speaker for the event, which was hosted by Economics Pennsylvania.

Also attending the awards luncheon were nine students, Sean Farley, Bobby Hoover, Eliza Hall, Katee Glass, Chelsea Manthey, Regan Boore, Angela Smith, Trevor Houseknecht, and Harry Shuey, and two staff members, Mike Snyder and Betty Marr.

Both Snyder and Marr are teachers who utilize curriculum materials sponsored through Economics Pennsylvania. The students who were selected to attend the luncheon have won regional recognition with the Business Plan Challenge or are having much success with the Stock Market Game. There are currently two Montgomery teams participating in the Stock Market Game who are in fifth and sixth place out of 580 teams.
