Muncy 4th Fridays

July 1, 2014 - Barb Barrett
Muncy’s 4th Fridays are a great place to be if you have kids. The vendors and participation of the community is just fantastic. Some local churches volunteered their time and materials to set up games and activities for kids. They were able to color, face paint, and chalk in the street (N. Main) which was closed from Water Street north to the auto dealership. There was plenty of parking behind Muncy Bank & Trust which was near the beginning of the closed strip. With live music and food, it was truly a family party atmosphere.

Muncy Bank & Trust sponsored a raffle with some donations given from local artists and photographers. I was going for the barn quilt. Alongside the festivities there was also an art show pulled together by bank employees and members of the MPBA.

It started at 5 and I arrived with my granddaughter around 5:30. She was not ready to leave at 7 and so we stayed until 7:30 and I still did not see everything. There was more art at Fort Brady Hotel and lots to see inside the Muncy Historical Museum. However, for a time, I was able to visit with some of the artisans inside the bank who were there explaining how they made their creations.

They also brought more of their artwork for viewing and to purchase. I saw pottery, quilts, photography, sculptures, and wood carvings, all made here by these well-known award-winning local artists. Muncy Bank & Trust pulled many of their art pieces as well for display which they purchased over the years and now adorn their walls and halls. During the event they were serving cookies with punch and apple juice.

Some businesses also opened their doors and those who weren’t on N. Main Street moved to the street. You could buy homemade candles, soaps, purses, jewelry, rugs, totes, blankets and so much more. Susquehanna Health was there too doing free blood pressure checks. What an opportunity! Many of these vendors will return this month, July 25 with even more fun. Be sure to look for the “Downtown Carnival” with lots of prizes, and the music will be “Just Bob Acoustic.” And bring everyone you can think of, the more the merrier.
